The song received critical acclaim. It was ranked as the 32nd best song of 2019 by Stereogum.
• "Blinding Lights" debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 on the issue dated December 14, 2019. On the issue dated December 21, 2019, "Blinding Lights" fell 41 places to number 52, more than "Heartless", which debuted at number 32, climbed to number one the following week, but fell 16 places to number 17 on its third week. The song later rose to number seven on the chart in its 14th week, on the issue dated March 14, 2020. It became The Weeknd's tenth top 10 hit.
