Wallker Hayes Lyrics

Country Stuff The Album Lyrics
(Lyrics to the Full Album on one page)

Drinkin Songs

Hey
Smoke rings in a dark room
Broke heart on a bar stool
Ash tray full of burnt out ciga-regrets
Sad sound on a jukebox
Strong stuff on a few rocks
Head full of all the things that I should'a said (Uh)

So give me that bourbon and Bocephus
I can't help me so help me Jesus (Jesus)
She ain't coming back like you
She gone (Back like you)
Said what I need is them Williams boys right now
Hank ain't never gon' let me down (Gon' let me down)
Bring them family traditions on (Bring 'em on, bring 'em on, bring 'em on)
Yeah, I'm just keep sittin' here sippin' and singin' along
Thank God for drinkin' and drinkin' songs

New girl and a slow dance (Slow dance)
She don't know there ain't no chance (No chance)
I'ma 'member her name when that rooster sings (Ooh, ooh-ooh)
My mama put me on a prayer list
Brother says, "Only time will fix it"
I know they're right, but y'all patience ain't my thing
(No, it ain't, woo)

So give me that bourbon and Bocephus
I can't help me so help me Jesus (Jesus)
She ain't coming back like you
She gone (Back like you)
Said what I need is them Williams boys right now
Hank ain't never gon' let me down (Gon' let me down)
Bring them family traditions on (Bring 'em on, bring 'em on, bring 'em on)
Yeah, I'ma just keep sittin' here sippin' and singin' along
Thank God for drinkin' and drinkin' songs

But I know this bottle don't love me (Love me)
And I ain't never met Hank
But I know old Juney wouldn't judge me
Singin', "Why do you drink?" (So why do you drink?)
All this whiskey here ain't helping my case
So, give me the heaven with hell
It's the only thing that can't push away like I do everybody else

So give me that bourbon and Bocephus
I can't help me so help me Jesus (Jesus)
She ain't coming back like you
She gone (Back like you)
So what I need is them Williams boys right now
Hank ain't never gon' let me down (Gon' let me down)
Bring them family traditions on (Bring 'em on, bring 'em on, bring 'em on)
Yeah, I'ma just keep sittin' here sippin' and singin' along
Thank God for drinkin' and drinkin' songs

AA

(One, two, three, four)

Alright
Coffee cup, cold and black
Wish it had a little shot of Jack
Besides that, can't complain
Just tryna do the dang thing
Might change the oil in my truck
I ain't paying no thirty-five bucks
Kids need shoes, mama needs Levi's

And I'm just tryna keep my daughters off the pole
And my sons out of jail
Tryna get to church so I don't go to hell
I'm just tryna keep my wife from figuring out
That I married up and she married way, way down
In Alabama where they love Nick Saban
Tryna write a song the local country station'll play
Hey, I'm just tryna stay out of AA

(Hey, hey, hey)

Ooh
Well I gave up Skoal and cigarettes
Now I'm just hooked on Nicorette
Trying not to be like my old man
But the older I get, the more I am
Tryna get paid and a little love made, y'all
Hey y'all, at the end of the day, y'all
I'm just another John Deere guy (hey)
Up on a tractor

Tryna steer my daughters off the pole
And my sons out of jail (sons out of jail)
Tryna get to church so I don't go to hell (I don't wanna go)
I'm just tryna keep my wife (hey babe) from figuring out (I love)
That I married up (you're so fine, girl) and she married way, way down
In Alabama where they love Nick Saban (Roll Tide)
Tryna write a song the local country station'll play (I'm just tryna write a song)
Hey, I'm just tryna stay out of AA

Ooh, ooh, ooh
Come on, bae, right here

Said, ooh-ooh-ooh, tryna stay out of AA everyday
One step at a time, y'all
Life's hard, family's weird
Sometimes you just need a beer
Can I get an amen (amen)

Man, I'm just tryna keep my daughters off the pole
And my sons out of jail (sons out of jail)
Tryna get to church so I don't go to hell (I don't wanna go)
I'm just tryna keep my wife (hey babe) from figuring out (I love)
That I married up (you're so fine, girl) and she married way, way down
In Alabama where they love Nick Saban (Roll Tide)
Tryna write a song the local country station'll play (I'm just tryna write a song)
Hey, I'm just tryna stay out of AA

Oh, hey, hey, hey, I'm just tryna stay out of AA
Yes, I am

Life with You

Ayy, slow ride down old shell road
Holding hands at the center console
Baby, how they just fit that right
Like a small town and a Saturday night
Gotta laugh at the dude I was
'Fore the good Lord introduced us
Yeah, He thought He had it all figured out
Hey girl, I'ma tell you right now

I never knew that I was lonely 'til you, love
Didn't believe in all that one and only stuff
Only thing that my heart could commit to
Was my commitment issues
'Til you came into the picture, like whoa
I said, "Y'all I'm finished flying solo"
Girl, I finna tell the world that my wife is you
Baby' all I wanna do is do life with you

Ayy, now every time I see a kid on a bike
I wonder what ours are gonna look like
And every house on a hill we pass
I see you swinging on the porch while I'm cutting the grass
Getting old 'til we ain't young no more ('til we ain't young)
Little fam, put the slams on the screen door (little family)
Watching time fly like time does (time does)
And every night thanking God 'cause

I never knew that I was lonely 'til you, love
Didn't believe in all that one and only stuff
Only thing that my heart could commit to
Was my commitment issues
'Til you came into the picture, like whoa
I said, "Y'all I'm finished flying solo"
Girl, I finna tell the world that my wife is you
Baby, all I wanna do is do life with you

Life with you, life with you, all I wanna do is do life with you
Ooh, baby, all I wanna do is do life with you (ooh) (I never knew)
Life with you, life with you, all I wanna do is do life with you (that I was lonely 'til you)
Ooh, yeah yeah(I never knew)

I never knew that I was lonely 'til you, love
Didn't believe in all that one and only stuff
Only thing that my heart could commit to
Was my commitment issues (I never knew)
'Til you came into the picture like whoa (that I was lonely 'til you)
I said, "Y'all I'm finished flying solo"
Girl, I finna tell the world that my wife is you
Baby, all I wanna do is do life with you

U Gurl

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

We sit out there on that porch swing
Don't phase you that it's pouring rain
And I kinda like that you ain't afraid
To get mud on your boots (okay)
Get sideways to that George Strait
Keep backing up that tailgate
Trucker hat, hundred proof
Guys like me like girls that look like

You girl
Cherry bottom boom girl
Every shade of blue jeans look mean with a body like that
Woo woo girl
Southern through and through girl
Do what you do girl (ooh-ooh)
Guys like me like girls that look like you girl

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

So the way you walk is suggestive
Strip mall town impressive
Girl, I hate to see you go (hold up)
But I love to watch you exit (ooh)
All flames where you cookin' at
That bourbon kiss where you putting that
I know it's rude to stare, but shoot
I don't wanna stop looking at

You girl
Cherry bottom boom girl
Every shade of blue jeans look mean with a body like that
Woo woo girl
Southern through and through girl
Do what you do girl
Guys like me like girls that look like you girl

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh (ooh girl)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

Guys like me like girls that look like you girl

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

ayy
Brown eyes like two hurricanes
Lasso me with them hoop earrings
Moving me with the way you move
Guys like me like girls that look like

You girl (woo)
Cherry bottom boom girl
Every shade of blue jeans look mean with a body like that
Woo woo girl
Southern through and through girl
Do what you do girl (ooh)
Guys like me like girls that look like you girl

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

Guys like me like girls that look like you girl

Delorean

Oh, I ain't heard this song in a minute
I forget who sings it but I remember turning it up
Showing you how my bass could shake the rearview
'Member you chewed ice breakers next to me at church
Smelling like bath and body works
In that dress with that texture I love to touch so much
Baby, all that stuff does me like a

Delorean
Puts me in the backseat of your accord again
Losing your shirt on the floorboard again
Like good Lord again (good Lord)
Green numbers on the clock and the dash tick-tock says 4 AM
Yeah, you're daddy's gonna hate me even more again
Girl, it's crazy (so crazy, girl)
Ain't no telling what's gon' take me back to our love's origin (origin)
Just like that Delorean

Anything Bone Thugs in the speakers (Bone Thugs)
Anything airbrushed on the t-shirt (airbrushed)
Little rum on the back of a French kiss (little rum on the back)
Little hit of some Herbal Essences (Herbal Essences)
I don't wanna go back to the future
I just wanna cruise girl, in a (cruise with you, girl)

And a Delorean
Puts me in the backseat of your accord again
Losing your shirt on the floorboard again
Like good Lord again (good Lord)
Green numbers on the clock and the dash tick-tock says 4 AM
Yeah, you're daddy's gonna hate me even more again
Girl, it's crazy (so crazy, girl)
Ain't no telling what's gon' take me back to our love's origin (origin)
Just like that Delorean

Uh, can't tell me there ain't no such thing (can't tell me)
As a time machine (you can't tell me)
Can't tell me there ain't no such thing
(Can't tell me there ain't no such thing as a time machine)
Can't tell me there ain't no such thing as a time machine (can't tell me)
Can't tell me there ain't no such thing
I just wanna ride in that

Delorean
Puts me in the backseat of your accord again
Losing your shirt on the floorboard again
Like good Lord again (good Lord)
Green numbers on the clock and the dash tick-tock says 4 AM
Yeah, you're daddy's gonna hate me even more again
Girl, it's crazy (so crazy, girl)
Ain't no telling what's gon' take me back to our love's origin (origin)
Just like that Delorean

Ain't no telling what's gon' take me back
Ain't no telling what's gon' take me back to our love's origin
Baby, all that stuff does me like a Delorean

Fancy Like

Ayy
My girl is bangin'
She's so low maintenance
Don't need no champagne poppin' entertainment
Take her to Wendy's
Can't keep her off me
She wanna dip me like them fries in her Frosty (frosty)

But every now and then when I get paid
I gotta spoil my baby with an upgrade (ayy)
Ayy, ayy, ayy

Yeah, we fancy like Applebee's on a date night
Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake
Get some whipped cream on the top too
Two straws, one check, girl, I got you
Bougie like Natty in the styrofoam
Squeak-squeakin' in the truck bed all the way home
Some Alabama-jamma, she my Dixieland delight (ayy)
That's how we do, how we do, fancy like

(Ooh)
(Fancy like, ooh)
(Fancy like, ooh)
(Fancy like, ooh)

Uh, don't need no Tesla to impress her (don't need no Tesla to impress her)
My girl is happy rollin' on a Vespa (there she go)
Don't need no mansion to get romancin' (ooh, woo)
She's super fine, double wide, slow dancin' (slow dancin')

But every now and then when I get paid
I gotta spoil my baby with an upgrade
Ayy, ayy, ayy

Yeah, we fancy like Applebee's on a date night (that's right)
Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake (ayy)
Get some whipped cream on the top too (gotta add that whipped cream)
Two straws, one check, girl, I got you (girl, I got you)
Bougie like Natty in the styrofoam (styrofoam)
Squeak-squeakin' in the truck bed all the way home (all the way home)
Some Alabama-jamma, she my Dixieland delight (ayy)
That's how we do, how we do, fancy like

My new clean blue jeans without the holes in 'em
Country kisses on my lips without Skoal in 'em
Yeah, she probably gon' be keeping some Victoria's Secrets
Maybe a little Maybelline but she don't need it
In the kitchen light, radio slows down
Boxed wine and her up-do goes down

Ayy
Yeah, we fancy like Applebee's on a date night (that's right)
Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake (ayy)
Get some whipped cream on the top too (gotta add that whipped cream)
Two straws, one check, girl, I got you
Bougie like Natty in the styrofoam (styrofoam)
Squeak-squeakin' in the truck bed all the way home (all the way home)
Some Alabama-jamma, she my Dixieland delight (ayy)
That's how we do, how we do, fancy like

Craig

I met Craig at a church called Redeeming Grace
It's like he understood my "I don't want to be here" face
I felt out of place and I smelled like beer
But he just shook my hand, said "I'm glad you're here"
He says "we'll all be judged"
But he was never judgemental
And even though my songs don't belong in no hymna
He'd quote me my lyrics, slap me on the back
Said "Man you've got a gift! How you write like that?"

Yeah I know, he sounds cool right?
Not your typical kid from Sunday School, right?
I still ain't figured out church yet
But Craig, I get
Nah he can't walk on water, turn the Napa Valley red
But he just might be tight with a man that did
Now he's not the light of the world
But I wish that mine was bright as his
Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is

When you lose a record deal, yeah all the perks fade fast
Dealership said, "We're going to need to get that mini-van back"
So we were down to one car
And broke as I felt
My wife and six kids and only five seat belts
I needed help but couldn't admit I was struggling
Said, "Craig, it's all good"
But he knew it all wasn't
A "Hey man I'm praying for you" would've been sufficient but nah
He took roadside assistance to a whole other level
To sacrificial heights

Showed up at the ballpark after my son's game one night
In two cars, with his wife Laura watching from the other
I said "What in the world are y'all doing here, brother?"
He just laughed inside that old Chrysler Town and Country van
With the keys, and a title, and a pen in his hand
Said "Man, all you got to do is sign and it's yours"
I said "No, no way"
But he wouldn't take "no" for an answer
He said "Please do
Somebody did this for me once, just let me do this for you"
We argued about it for a little while
Then I teared up, and Craig smiled

Yeah I know, he sounds cool right?
Not your typical kid from Sunday school, right?
Nah he can't walk on water, or turn the Napa Valley red
But he just might be tight with a man that did
Now he's not the light of the world
But I wish that mine was bright as his
Yeah he just might be tight with a man that is

My pride was way too ashamed to be adequately grateful at the moment
But I signed the dotted line, and I drove the kids home
And when the cop pulled up beside us
At the light, they didn't have to duck
Because thanks to Craig
They were all buckled up

Country Stuff

I'll tell you right here if I was Shane McAnally, what I'd do
I'll tell you what I'd so, I'd put it right here, I'll put it
(Lets go)

I like beers cheap and cold
I like chairs that rock and fold
I like long cut wintergreen Skoal
And Redman's what I chew (yeah, that's all, woo)
Got a yard full of car parts in it (ayy)
I can dress you a hog in a minute
Yeah, my number one amendment (which one?)
Is gonna have to be number two 'cause

I like shooting ducks and bucks (ayy)
I like mud tires on my truck (ayy)
I like old blue jeans, guitar strings, and dirt roads
(Everybody loves a dirt road) you know
I like girls that like the woods
I like kissing 'em on the hood
I like green tractors, Dukes of Hazzard and grits
You know, country stuff (here we go)

Country stuff, country stuff
I like country stuff
Country stuff, country stuff
I like country stuff (ayy)

I sip whiskey from the handle (handle)
I got dogs named Jack and Daniel
Yeah, my favorite shirts are flannel (me too, baby)
And I tear up some turnip greens (ayy)
Now taxidermy, that's art, favorite movie, you serious, Clark?
You know I love fishing in the dark (yeah)
The song and the real thing (here we go)

I like shooting ducks and bucks (ayy)
I like mud tires on my truck (ayy)
I like old blue jeans, guitar strings, and dirt roads
(Everybody loves a dirt road) you know
I like girls that like the woods
I like kissing 'em on the hood
I like green tractors, Dukes of Hazzard and grits (grits, yeah)
You know, country stuff (here we go)

Country stuff, country stuff (cheese grits, man)
I like country stuff (cheese grits?)
(Walker my momma makes the best cheese grits you'll ever put in your mouth)
Country stuff, country stuff
I like country stuff (get you some)

Alright, yeah, I'm talking 'bout (what you talkin' 'bout?)
Tin roof rains, front porch swings
Back door, front door, both got screens
Calling turkeys, beef jerky, sweet tea (that ain't no turkey call)
Y'all, it's all good

I like shooting ducks and bucks
I like mud tires on my truck
I like old blue jeans, guitar strings, and dirt roads
(Everybody loves a dirt road) you know
I like girls that like the woods
I like kissing 'em on the hood
I like green tractors, Dukes of Hazzard and grits (grits, yeah)
You know, country stuff

(Walker, grits does not rhyme with stuff)
(Well man, I'm just trying to fee the kids)
(Just say it man, just say what it is, you can say -)
(You can't say that on the radio, man)
(You're a wuss, man)

I Hope You Miss Me

Hope you made it out West, safe and sound
Hope your Honda didn't break down
And you took time to walk around
Joshua Tree
Small towns ain't stupid, you know
I always knew you would go
People like you don't get old
With people like me (no they don't)

I hope you're living out by the ocean
That's where you always said you were goin'
LA baby on Sunset Drivin'
City of angels, you should fit right in
You want the part, baby, go get it
Can't wait to see your name in those credits
Hope you find yourself but selfishly
I hope you miss me

Ba da da ba da, ba da da ba da
I hope you miss me (ayy)

I hope you don't get homesick one time
And it's all call back's and sunshine
And you find someone to run lines with while you learn 'em
(While you learn 'em, while you learn 'em, while you learn 'em)
I hope you run into your girl crush halo
While you shoppin' on Rodeo
And she cool as you always hoped she'd be in person

I hope you're living out by the ocean
That's where you always said you were goin'
LA baby on Sunset Drivin'
City of angels, you should fit right in
You want the part, baby, go get it
Can't wait to see your name in those credits (go get it babe)
Hope you find yourself but selfishly (ayy)
I hope you miss me

Ba da da ba da, ba da da ba da
Selfishly

And when you finally get that star (finally get that star)
On Hollywood Boulevard (on Hollywood Boulevard)
Just remember I called it on the hood of your car (ayy)

I hope you're living out by the ocean
That's where you always said you were goin' (ayy)
If it's the city of angels, you should fit right in
You want the part, baby, go get it (go get it)
Can't wait to see your name in those credits
Hope you find yourself but selfishly
I hope you miss me

Small town's ain't stupid, you know
I always knew you would go
People like you don't get old
With people like me (I hope you miss me)
Small town's ain't stupid, you know
I always knew you would go
People like you don't get old (selfishly)
With people like me (I hope you miss me)

Briefcase

I hated when dad picked up his briefcase
'Cause that meant that he was leavin'
But I loved the sound that his keychain made
When he got home in the evenin'

I was always sad, mom was always mad
Most nights he showed up late
Set his briefcase down like it didn't weigh a pound
No, I never understood the weight
But momma always left him a plate

Eighteen, said I'ma be anythin'
But just like my old man
Sellin' houses to all those families
While his family sat at home missin' him
Got sick of playin' ball games watchin'
All the other dads watch their kids
So I picked up a guitar case 'cause it wasn't square like his

Now, I sound like him and I look like him
And I walk like him and I talk like him
And I try to make my wife laugh
When she's mad 'cause I love my job like him
Now, I get it dad, it's a jugglin' act
Between feedin' the kids and feedin' the dreams we chase
I guess a guitar doesn't fall too far from a briefcase

Well, momma cleaned and daddy worked
And I learned to play the guitar
On McGregor Court, that's how we coped with all our broken hearts
I know I held it against him
Throwin' that baseball against his steps
But daddy never held it against me
'Cause I wasn't a father yet, not yet

Now, I sound like him and I look like him
And I walk like him and I talk like him
And I try to make my kids laugh
When they're sad and it's all my fault like him
Now, I get it dad, it's a jugglin' act
Between feedin' the kids and feedin' the dreams we chase
I guess a guitar doesn't fall too far from a briefcase

It's a blessing and a curse in this case I carry around
Every time I pick it up, my kids say, "Daddy put it down"
And I see me in them and I feel him in me
Like the cats in the cradle and the apples in the trees
And I just smile when somebody says

That I sound like him and I look like him
And I walk like him and I talk like him
And I run to the father when I hate nothin' at all like him
Yeah, I get it dad, it's a jugglin' act
Between feedin' the kids and feedin' the dreams we chase
I guess a guitar doesn't fall too far from the briefcase

Make You Cry

Sixteen six strings I could barely play it
Loved you but I didn't know just how to say it
Tailgate serenade I was nervous
Sweating Keith Whitley but hey, I guess it worked, 'cause

Didn't even have to wonder what you thought
You said it best when you said nothing at all
Felt like a rockstar watching those happy tears fall (ayy)

I love to make you cry, I
Know I hit that right emotion
When your eyes fill up with oceans
Girl, I love to make you cry, I
Know I'm really onto something
When that mascara's running
Girl, I love to make you cry

Twenty-three buying twenty-four carrots
Got that ring before I even asked your parents
Bet I look crazy driving around gulf shores
Talking to a little black box on the dashboard

I admit it for a minute I was stressed
Gave me a hug but you forgot to say yes
But it was written on your cheeks
Girl, I didn't have to guess, that's the best

I love to make you cry, I
Know I hit that right emotion (hit that right emotion)
When your eyes fill up with oceans (eyes fill up with oceans)
Girl, I love to make you cry, I
Know I'm really onto something (really onto something)
When that mascara's running (when that mascara's running)
Girl, I love to make you cry

(Yeah, I love to make you cry)
(I ain't even gonna lie)
I ain't even gonna lie (lie)

Girl, I love to make you cry
Yeah, sometimes I want to run out of the room
'Cause when you do it
I can't help but do it too
Set the waterworks free, no shame on me
Let them know

I love to make you cry, I
Know I hit that right emotion (hit that right emotion)
When your eyes fill up with oceans (eyes fill up with oceans)
Girl, I love to make you cry, I
Know I'm really onto something (really onto something)
When that mascara's running (when that mascara's running)
Girl, I love to make you cry
I love to make you cry
(Yeah, I love to make you cry)
I ain't even gonna lie
(I ain't even gonna lie)
(I love it when you)
(Girl, I love to make you cry, I)
Girl, I love to make you cry
(Yeah, I love to make you cry)
I ain't even gonna lie
(I ain't even gonna lie)
Ooh
(I love it when you)
I love to make you cry

What If We Did

(What if we did? What if we did?)
(What if we did? What if we did?)
(What if we did? What if we did?)
(What if we did? What if we did?)

Lady, lookin' heaven sent
I've been starin' ever since you walked in this party
I'm sorry, I'm kinda hesitant
Uh, I ain't usually like this

Last person that I dated taught me love was overrated
Kinda afraid of fallin' in it
I've been jaded for a minute or two
But girl, there's somethin' about you

Girl, we probably ain't gonna make it to the mornin' much less
To our last-first kiss and your second-date dress
With a chance of forever
'Cause that only happens never
Nah, we probably ain't gonna make it to the honeymoon suite
Settle down in a house on Beechwood Street
With a porch and a swing and a dog and a couple of kids
But hey, baby, what if we did?

(What if we did? What if we did?)
What if we did? (what if we did? What if we did?)
Oh, what if we did? (what if we did? What if we did?)
(What if we did? What if we did?)

Don't mean to be cynical, relationships are difficult
Momma told me one condition, love is unconditional
It's a wonder happy ever after really happens at all
(It's a wonder how it happens at all)

But maybe that's what we could have
Maybe one day we'll look back
Call me crazy, baby, maybe this could be the night that we met
When I shook my head and said

Girl, we probably ain't gonna make it to the mornin' much less
To our last-first kiss and your second-date dress
With a chance of forever
'Cause that only happens never
Nah, we probably ain't gonna make it to the honeymoon suite
Settle down in a house on Beechwood Street
With a porch and a swing and a dog and a couple of kids
Hey, baby, what if we did?

(What if we did? What if we did?)
What if we did? (what if we did? What if we did?)
Oh, what if we did? (what if we did? What if we did?)
(What if we did? What if we did?)

And it would be rad if we did (it would be rad if we did)
I wouldn't be mad if we did (I wouldn't be mad if we did)
Would you be glad if we did?
'Cause what if we did?
(What if we did?)

Said, it would be rad if we did (it would be rad if we did)
I wouldn't be mad if we did (I wouldn't be mad if we did)
Would you be glad if we did?
What if we did? (oh, what if we did? What if we did?)
