Dark water buoys a sodden brown leaf east
Gathering small twigs for its silted feast
Red branches ignite the still leaf-bare trees
Painting dogwood on this watchful frieze
Pathway alongside the river's eddies
Sawed by beavers a toppled poplar spanned
A thumb-shaped cove green/stagnant/hinterland
Tightrope for giants strung across banked sand
Outflow water pours itself over rocks
As this darkling concrete culvert talks
Disturbed streams of oration
On she walks
