When I first came into this world, my folks they were so proud
They showed my picture to their friends, they smiled and they laughed out loud
And as I grew I learned some things; what to do- how to think
I learned about the curious face that my folks called "the wink"
Well, the wink was a very useful tool- my folks used it every night
It was their special way of letting me know everything's going to be alright
Well now I have my family; a dog, two kids, and a wife
It seems like we're busy all of the time- running 'round is the usual life
And when we took time to go see my folks, spend the day, have a drink
They'd let us know how happy they were, tell a joke, give a wink
And when we left they would both stand and wink,
And wave till we were out of sight
It was their special way of letting me know everything's going to be alright
When you're happy or sad, or just feeling bad, anytime day or night
Just remember to smile and give 'em a wink, everything's going to be alright
The years go by so fast it seems you'll miss one if you blink
I'm grateful for the life I've had, and I'm grateful for the wink
The wink was there in happy times, and there when things were sad
But I never thought I would use the wink as 'goodbye' to mom & dad
But they gave me a wink as I said our goodbyes and slowly turned out the light
Their special way of letting me know everything's going to be alright
When you're happy or sad, or just feeling bad, anytime day or night
Just remember to smile and give 'em a wink, everything's going to be alright
