Formed: in El Paso, Texas (1993) by Guitarist Jim Ward and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala (both members of El Paso Pussycats at the time)

Name Game: band name is from a lyric in the song "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison.

Influences: Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, Texas hardcore scene,

Trademark: strongly metaphorical lyrics.

First show: on October 15th, 1994 at The Loretto Fair with Catch Okra, in El Paso, Texas.

Breakthrough single: "One Armed Scissor" (and subsequent MTV video)

Debut Album: Acrobatic Tenement (1996) (Flipside)

In 2001, broke up at the peak of their popularity initially going on "indefinite hiatus."

After the break-up of ATDI, Omar and Cedric started The Mars Volta.
Other members including Jim Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar formed the band Sparta.

DeFacto (formerly De Facto Carde Dub) was the alias for Cedric Bixler and Omar Rodriguez's reggae/dub side project since the early days of At the Drive-In.

DeFacto broke up when Jeremy Ward the vocalist and sound engineer died of a drug overdose in 2003.
