Dark Horse Lyrics
Jump to:
I knew you were
You were gonna come to me
And here you are
But you better choose carefully
'Cause I'm capable of anything
Of anything and everything

Make me your Aphrodite
Make me your one and only
Don't make me your enemy, your enemy, your enemy

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you falling for
Baby do you dare to do this
Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm
Cause once you're mine, once you're mine
There's no going back

Mark my words
This love will make you levitate
Like a bird
Like a bird without a cage
But down to earth
If you choose to walk away, don't walk away

It's in the palm of your hand now baby
It's a yes or no, no maybe
So just be sure before you give it up to me
Up to me, give it up to me

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you falling for
Baby do you dare to do this
Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm
Cause once you're mine, once you're mine
There's no going back

[Juicy J - Rap Verse]
She's a beast
I call her Karma
She eat your heart out
Like Jeffrey Dahmer
Be careful
Try not to lead her on
Shawty's heart was on steroids
Cause her love was so strong
You may fall in love
When you meet her
If you get the chance you better keep her
She's sweet as pie but if you break her heart
She turn cold as a freezer
That fairy tale ending with a knight in shining armor
She can be my Sleeping Beauty
I'm gon' put her in a coma
Woo!
Damn I think I love her
Shawty so bad
I'm sprung and I don't care
She got me like a roller coaster
Turn the bedroom into a fair
Her love is like a drug
I was tryna hit it and quit it
But lil' mama so dope
I messed around and got addicted

So you wanna play with magic
Boy, you should know what you falling for
Baby do you dare to do this
Cause I'm coming at you like a dark horse
Are you ready for, ready for
A perfect storm, perfect storm
Cause once you're mine, once you're mine
There's no going back

Dark Horse Info:

Dark Horse features rapper Juicy J on Katy Perry's fourth studio album, Prism. Perry confirmed that it would be released on September 17, 2013 as the first promotional single from the album, but not as the album's second single.

Prior to the single release, the song was one of two songs - the other being "Walking On Air" - that were in competition to be released before the album's actual release date. The competition was hosted by Pepsi and the fans voted for the winner by tweeting.

Speaking on the song, Perry said: "It's kind of a juxtaposition. It's got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavored background soundtrack to it. And the Lyrics are kind of witchy and dark, as if I was a witch warning this man not to fall in love with me, and 'if you do know I'm going to be your last'."

This song was co-penned by Sarah Hudson, who is a singer-songwriter and a member of the Pop group Ultraviolet Sound. She isn't related to Katy (whose real name is Katy Hudson), however Sarah is the first cousin of another famous person with the same name, the actress Kate Hudson.

The term "Dark Horse" is used to describe a person whose abilities or possible course of action are unknown, or to a somebody who reveals unsuspected talent. The earliest-known use of the phrase was in novelist and future Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli's 1831 novel The Young Duke: A Moral Tale Through Gay. He described a horse race where, "a dark horse, which had never been thought of... rushed past the grandstand in sweeping triumph."

• She won the 2014 MTV VMA for "Best Female" for this song as well as the 2014 AMA for "Single of the Year"

The video was released on February 20, 2014. The protagonist is Perry's alter-ego named "Katy Pätra" (inspired by Egyptian Queen Cleopatra).

The music video was directed by Mathew Cullen, who previously worked with Perry on her music video for the song "California Gurls". According to Cullen, Perry approached him with the idea of setting the video in Ancient Egypt, and situated it in Memphis, Egypt as a nod to Juicy J's home city of Memphis, Tennessee. Perry's idea for the music video was to combine Ancient Egyptian culture with Memphis, Tennessee hip hop.
